Abstract
462,022. Discharge lamps. FODOR, J., and PISAGUA HOLDINGS, Ltd. Aug. 22, 1935, Nos. 23618 and 23619. [Class 39 (i)] [Also in Groups XVIII and XXXVI] A sign comprises a base provided with a plurality of equally spaced sockets supplied with high - frequency current, and electric discharge tubes shaped as characters interchangeably mounted in the sockets, said sockets constituting the sole means for supplying current to the tubes. In the embodiment shown in Figs. 1, 2, the tubes are supported in metal sockets 3 secured by screws 4 in an insulating strip 2 extending longitudinally of a metal casing 1 which is preferably earthed, the sockets being insulated from the casing by collars 5 and being connected to terminals 6 by wires within the casing. To ensure uniform illumination of a tube such as shown in Fig. 4, an insulating background 13 having an embedded conductor 14 is provided, the conductor terminating in electrodes 15, 16, 17 adjacent the glass of the tube and being connected to a metallic contact 18 fitting in one of the sockets. When the tube is provided with internal electrodes such as 19, Fig. 6, these are connected to terminals 20 on the rear surface of the tube which engage with contacts 15<1> in the background 13. In a further embodiment the background is of conducting material and is connected to the contact 18.
