Abstract

461,298. Street gullies. BROAD & CO., Ltd., and NAYLOR, F. Nov. 22, 1935, No. 32459. [Classes 87 (i) and 107] Drainage water is guided into the vertical opening of a gully cover 16, let into a road kerb, by means of a plate 11 having grooves 14 in its lower face for receiving the water flowing between the surface 15 and foundation 17 of the road, and transverse ribs and grooves on its upper face for deflecting the water from the gutter into the gully. The grooves in the upper face increase progressively in width from one side of the plate to the other and may slope downwards towards the gully opening. In the construction shown, the plate has a flange 13 extending along three sides thereof, and has the ribs 12 parallel to the side flanges. Each rib is undercut on both faces thus providing a good deflecting surface for the drainage water. In a modification, only one side of each rib is undercut and in further modifications the ribs are arranged obliquely or are of curved formation. The plate may be formed integrally with the frame of the gully cover.
