Abstract

460,873. Cigar holders. WALSH, W. April 9, 1936, No. 21172. Divided out of 461,102. [Class 130] A cigar is mounted on a block 10 of asbestos or other heat resistive material at one end of a tray 1 having upwardly extending side walls and is gripped by a retaining metal strip 5 held across the side walls by springs 8. The distance to which the springs can be extended is limited by the engagement of stops on stays 19 with the ends of grooves 20. To facilitate the lighting of a cigar, the tray is formed in two parts hinged at 11 and held in position by a pair of stays 12 slidably mounted in the upper edges of the parts. The sides of one part of the tray may be formed with arcuate extensions which co-operate with ribs or guides on the other part during relative movement of the two parts. The forward end of the tray is provided with an overhanging edge 17 and the whole tray is lined with a thin sheet 18 of asbestos. In a modified construction, one of the two parts of the tray is slidable with respect to the other to facilitate the lighting of the cigar. The Provisional Specification states that the cigar is gripped by blades which extend from the sides of the strip 5 and engage pockets in the side walls of the tray.
