Abstract

460,721. Television. WALTON, G. W. Aug. 7, 1935, No. 22303. [Class 40 (iii)] The average light intensity of the picture 1 modulates an alternating current of a frequency which does not produce a visible effect on the image. The frequency is AB/C, where A is the picture frequency, and B and C are whole numbers such that B is not a multiple of C, as described in Specification 379,552. For example the frequency is a multiple plus one-half of the picture frequency. The output from a light-sensitive cell 9, which is influenced by light from the whole picture, modulates an alternating current, which is generated by a generator 11 run in synchronism with the scanning-device 2. Alternatively, the light falling on the cell 9 is interrupted periodically by a rotating disc with a ring of apertures, each with a transparency which varies sinusoidally in the direction of rotation, Fig. 3 (not shown). At the receiver, Fig. 2, the mixed currents are fed to two parallel circuits, one of which is coupled to means 17, which reconstitute the picture, while the other has a filter 20 for selecting the alternating current, and a rectifier 21. Part of the rectified output across an impedance 23 varies the grid bias of a valve in an amplifier 16 for the picture signals.
