[Class 146 (iii)] In a multiple propelling pencil, lead-holders b, Fig. 3, are mounted in guide sleeves i so that they can be longitudinally shifted, and each lead-holder has at its rear end a guide pin m projecting through a longitudinal slot k in the guide sleeve and running on a cam-surface o (shown developed in Fig. 4). The cam-surface is arranged concentrically and rotatably on the guide sleeves, and its rear end extends vertically forward at p, so that each guide pin m in turn, as it moves over this end, is pressed forward by a spring h, thus projecting the lead-holder b from the casing a. The guide sleeves i are carried in a sleeve d rotatably mounted in the casing a and operated by a knob e. The sleeve d has slots c registering with the slots k. The cam-surface o is the upper edge of a sleeve n secured to the casing a. A notch r is provided at the rear end and a notch q at the forward end of the surface p, so that by engaging one of the pins m, all the leadholders can be maintained in a retracted position, or the projected one can be held against writing pressure.
