Abstract
458,592. Magnetos. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION, Detroit, Michigan, U.S.A. May 16, 1935, No. 14329. Convention date, May 28, 1934. Addition to 427,679, [Group XXVII]. [Class 35] [See also Group XXVII] A magneto-electro generator G charges a condenser C, the discharge circuit of which includes the primary winding P of a transformer and an electric valve which prevents current flow until the condenser is charged to a predetermined voltage. The generator may consist of a rotary permanent magnet 14 and a laminated stator 16 with series windings 18. Cobalt-steel or aluminium-iron alloy may be used for the rotor. Modifications are described in which the generator comprises a rotating horseshoe and a fixed wound armature, in which the rotary permanent magnets are attached to the fly-wheel, in which the generator is of the inductor type and in which there are windings on both rotor and stator. Preferably, the generator is assembled within the distributer housing and around a common driving shaft, the same housing also containing or supporting the valve V, condenser C and transformer PS. The three-part casing 20, 30, 32, with the distributer head, is secured by a setscrew entering a slot in the framing, being thus adjustable for timing which may also be effected by connection to a capsule responsive to induction-pipe suction. The generator rotor 14 is in two parts for cooling, which effect is increased by a fan 36, the air being drawn in through filtering material 38. Specification 440,100, [Group XL], is referred to.
