Abstract

In a pasting - mechanism in which intermeshing gears 14, 15 receive paste P from a reservoir 10 and deliver it through a nozzle 17, a rotary propeller 23 having inclined blades forces the paste into the space between the gear teeth. The paste within the reservoir 10 is stirred by a rotary agitator 24. The gears 14, 15 supply an excessive quantity of paste through the nozzle and the excess is <PICT:0458443/III/1> returned to the reservoir past a spring-loaded relief valve. A valve 34 regulates the quantity fed to the nozzle which is provided with a narrow delivery slot 28. The nozzle is secured to the reservoir by a screw-adjusted forked lever 25 pivoted thereon and can be rotated by a lever 29 to vary the width of the strip of paste supplied. The pasting mechanism may be used in cigarette making or wrapping machines. Specification 429,134, [Group VIII], is referred to.
