Abstract
458,191. Bakes ; cultivators. HARGREAVES &, CO., Ltd., W., Old Road, Cheadle, and HARGREAVES, W., Glendaruel, Thorley Lane, Timperley, both in Cheshire. July 25, 1935, No. 21097. [Classes 6 (i) and 6 (iii)] A wheel supported rake adapted to be pulled or pushed by a handle b<1> comprises side frames c pivoted on the axle a of wheels or rollers a<1> and spaced apart at their front ends by a bar c<1>; an adjustable weight d is preferably secured to these frames. The raking members consist of stout wires f of which the front ends are looped to engage a cross-bar e provided with spacing pieces e<1> while the rear ends are bent downwards to engage the surface to be raked. A comb bar g with wires g<2> interspaced with the raking wires may be pivoted at the front of the frame, the combing wires being normally held out of action by a spring g<3> ; they may be brought into operation by pulling a cord h attached to a lever g<4>, further pulling on this cord lifts the rake teeth out of action. The ends of the raking wires pass through holes in a spacing bar c<2>. In a modification, the teeth project from bars pivoted on the axle a, a bent strip preventing these bars falling too low and springs below a cross-bar pressing them downwards. The teeth may be sufficiently stout to give a scarifying action. In another modification, the combing device is mounted on a shaft driven by a pawl-andratchet gear actuated by a cam driven from the ground wheels. A number of rakes may be coupled together laterally.
