An intermediate layer for laminated glass is obtained by the polymerization of vinyl acetate or acrylic acid esters with the addition of softening agents and without solvents, the polymerization being carried to the middle stage and, after this stage is reached, all uncombined monomers being distilled off and the product rapidly heated to 120 DEG C., and applied under pressure to a glass surface to which it adheres on cooling. Suitable softening agents are tributyl phosphate, tricresyl phosphate and dibutyl phthalate, admixed with monomeric substance to the extent of 10,25 per cent. Thus, 15 per cent of softening agent may be added to vinyl acetate and polymerization rapidly effected by heating at above 80 DEG C. Specification 381,693 is referred to.
