Abstract

A coating-composition contains chlorinated rubber together with that component of an oxidized drying or semi-drying oil or oil-resin mixture obtained in accordance with the method described in the parent Specification. About 3 parts by weight of chlorinated rubber preferably of high chlorine content, are used with from 1 to 6 parts by weight of the oil or oil-resin component. The compound base, which may comprise also natural or synthetic resins, gums, or the like, is dissolved in a suitable solvent, and pigments, dyes, fillers, &c., may be added. According to examples: (1) a primer for metal comprises chlorinated rubber, oxidized drying oil component, red lead, xylol and benzol; (2) a finishing coat comprises chlorinated rubber, oxidized drying oil component, titanium dioxide, zinc oxide turpentine and xylol; (3) an acid and alkali resisting clear varnish comprises chlorinated rubber, oxidized drying oil component, turpentine and xylol; (4) an elastic finishing varnish comprises chlorinated rubber, oxidized drying oil component, tetralin, toluol and xylol.
