[Class 56] In the manufacture of bases for electric incandescent lamps by moulding an insulating glass mass within the base cap, the cracking of the glass due to stresses caused by more rapid cooling at its edges is prevented by subjecting the centre of the glass mass to the cooling action of a fine jet of air at high pressure immediately after the moulding or forming operation. A series of jets may be arranged at successive positions in the path of an automatic base-forming machine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 14597/03, [Class 56].
