Abstract

455,375. Television. CORK, E. C., 50A, Kenilworth Road, Ealing, London, MANIFOLD, M. BOWMAN-, Heathcot, Worplesdon Station, Surrey, and FAUDELL, C. L., 5, The Ridgeway, Acton, London. Jan. 15, 1935, Nos. 1408 and 23109. [Classes 40 (iii) and 40 (v)] In order to prevent the short strip-synchronizing impulses from influencing the framing scanning oscillator, the long framing impulses are separated from the short strip-synchronizing impulses by causing the impulses to control the charging of a condenser or inductance, the amplitude of the derived pulse increasing during the impulse to a value depending on its duration. The charge on the condenser or inductance due to the short strip-synchronizing impulses falls to a fixed minimum during the interval between successive impulses ; building-up of a charge which might simulate the effect of a framing impulse is thus avoided. The charge on an impedance 13 is changed in one sense during an impulse at a rate determined by a circuit 11, 12, 13, which has a much larger time constant than that 10, 12, 13 which determines the rate of change of the charge in the opposite sense after the impulse. Synchronizing - signals are separated from picture signals by a valve 5 biassed beyond the bottom bend of its characteristic. The separated synchronizing signals cut off the anode current of the valve 10 and, during this time, the condenser 13 is charged comparatively slowly through the resistance 11. At the end of the impulse, the condenser discharges rapidly through the valve 10, which becomes conducting. The charge on the condenser becomes sufficient, in the case of the long framing impulses, to overcome the bias 15 on a valve 14. According to modifications, all the signals are applied to the valve 10 and the picture signals are removed by a grid-current effect and the derived pulses are applied to a discharge tube so biassed that the framing impulses produce saw-toothed oscillations, Fig. 3 (not shown) ; the derived pulses are obtained by causing the impulses to initiate charging- current in an inductance, Fig. 4 (not shown) ; a biassed diode separates the derived pulses of greater amplitude, Fig. 5 (not shown) ; the valve for separating the synchronizing signals and obtaining the derived pulses is a pentode.
