Abstract

455,164. Aerials. SHORT BROS. (ROCHESTER & BEDFORD), Ltd., and PARKS, A. G., Seaplane Works, Rochester, Kent. Aug. 1, 1935, No. 21843. [Class 40 (v)] A frame-aerial for an aeroplane is mounted so that it can be extended outside the fuselage of the craft when in operation, and retracted inside when out of use. As shown, the frame a is mounted on a rotatable shaft b and is supported by a yoke c sliding on guide-rods d, d<1>. The yoke is fixed in its uppermost position by pins d<4>. In the withdrawn position, shown in dotted lines, the pivoted lower end b3 of the shaft is bent to one side to save space. The slot f formed in the body of the machine, to allow the aerial to emerge, is closed by a coverplate f when the aerial is in use, and by a cover-plate f<2> fixed to the top of the aerial when the latter is retracted. The aerial can be rotated, when exposed, by a hand wheel g<2> which co-operates with a graduated scale g<4> and cursor g<5>.
