[Class 100 (iv)] Relay type - wheel and type bar actions.- Printing-mechanism for a calculating-machine comprises a swinging or reciprocating typecarrier, an associated control-member, and a single latch which is differentially movable by means of a plurality of control-stops to determine the position of the type-carrier relatively to the control-member. Preferably, the series of stops is employed for numerical-selection, and when one of the control-stops also is employed, the type-carrier moves relatively to the control-member and alphabetical selection is effected. The apparatus shown in the Figure is controlled by a twelve-hole card, the top two holes representing the letters A, B, the other holes representing numerals, and combinations of the A or B hole and a numeral hole representing the other letters. The apparatus comprises stops 11, 12 set by the A and B holes, stops 13 set by the numeral holes, and a retaining-stop 10 which normally engages a lug 9 on a swinging control-sector 6 having a latch 28 for engaging stepped shoulders 29, 30, 31 on a swinging type-sector 7. The stops 11, 12, 13 are provided with setting-means of the kind described in Specification 26896/13, [Class 100 (iv)]. A spring 38 for urging anti-clockwise the controlsector and type-sector is connected to a link 42 which is supported by a rock-arm 40 and is connected to the type-sector, the arrangement causing th'e spring to maintain an even pull. A spring 34, connecting the control-sector and type-sector, maintains the latch 28 in engagement with one of the shoulders 29, 30, 31. The latch normally engages the shoulder 29, and is differentially displaced by the stops 12, 11 to engage the shoulders 30, 31 respectively. For depressing the retaining-stop 10 when any of the stops 11, 12, 13 are raised, the latter stops are provided with pins 22 engaging a bar 21 which abuts on levers 17, 24 in connection with the retaining stop. When one of the stops 13 is raised, the control-sector is released, and swings with the type-sector until the lug 9 engages the raised stop, the selected numeral-type being thereby brought to the printing line. -If the stop 12 or 11 is raised, the latch is displaced, the type-sector swings until the shoulder 30 or 31 is caught by the latch, the control-sector swings with the type-sector until the lug 9 engages a stationary stop 37, and the A-type or B-type is brought to the printing line. If one of the stops 13 and the stop 11 or 12 are raised, the latch determines the position of the type-sector relatively to the control-sector, the stop 13 determines the position of the controlsector, and letter-types other than A and B are brought to the printing line. A restoring-bar 44 for the control-sector and type-sector is carried by arms 43 in connection with a rockarm 46.
