Abstract
453,479. Electrically - actuated valves. STRUCKMAN, E., 97, Copse Hill, Wimbledon, London. March 6, 1935, No. 23514/36. Divided out of 453,430. [Class 135] A self-contained unit 53 for operating a valve of the kind which is opened by the depression of a plunger 54 against spring action is carried by and supported from the valve casing 9 and comprises a lever 52 engaging the plunger 54, a cam or crank for depressing the free end of the lever, and an electric motor x which rotates the cam or crank through reduction gearing. The lever is pivoted at 56 and carries an adjustable tappet 55. The cam, as shown, is formed as two pins 57, 58 on a crank disc 59. The pin 57 is nearer the driving shaft 62 than the pin 58 and in advance of it in the direction of operation so that the valve is partly opened by the pin 57 first to release the pressure tending to seat the valve. The shaft 62 carries a further disc with two projecting blocks which make contact with pairs of concentric arcuate strips on a stationary disc in such a way that one block leaves one pair of strips when the valve reaches the open position, so breaking a valve-opening circuit whilst the other block simultaneously joins the other pair of strips in a valve-closing circuit. The two circuits are controlled by a two-way switch under the control of an automatic rotary timing device such as described in Specification 453,430.
