453,389. Making pipe fittings. CORNELL, E. S., 17, Campbell Lane, Larchmont, New York, U.S.A. Nov. 8, 1935, No. 30985. Convention date, Dec. 1, 1934. [Classes 83 (ii) and 83 (iv)] Forging-dies.-In an elbow or like pipe fitting with terminal screw threads made from a tube, the walls of which are incapable of carrying a screw thread, the ends are thickened by cold flowing the metal, after which it is screw threaded. Fig. 3 shows a construction of elbow 10 with external threads 23, but the threading may be done internally at one or both ends, or one of the ends may be left plain for jointing by sweating. In Fig. 7 is shown a thin walled tube 10 in a cold condition in the cavitv of a die block 11. A mandrel 12 is placed in the tube and is provided with a reduced part 13 for co-operation with a hollow upsetting punch 17. The terminal parts may be expanded after forging.
