Abstract
450,647. Electric battery lamps. EVER READY CO. (GREAT BRITAIN), Ltd., and TERRY, M. C., Ever-Ready Works, Hercules Place, Holloway, London. Jan. 16, 1936, No. 1456. [Class 39 (ii)] In a bulb holder for electric torches, flash lamps, and like battery lamps, a metal disc 6 for connecting a metal bulb socket 1 to the torch or like lamp, is secured to the socket but spaced therefrom by means of two washers 4, of insulating material. The socket 1, Fig. 1, is formed with a screw-threaded bulb-receiving portion and a tubular extension 2 which are separated by an outward bulge or flange 3. The insulating washer 4 is placed below the flange 3, followed by the disc 6 and insulating washer 5, the disc 6 being provided with a central aperture of larger diameter than the socket 1 so that it is spaced therefrom. A flanged metal disc 8 is then placed on the extension 2 next to the washer 5, followed by a metal ring 9. The lower end of the extension 2 is then upset or flanged outwardly at 10, thus clamping the assembled members. A centre contact 12 comprising a hollow rivet mounted in an insulating disc 11 is held in position by spinning inwardly the edge 14 of the ring 9, or bending over tags provided on the ring. A helical spring 15 is preferably located in the socket 1 to lock the bulb therein. The disc 6 is provided with a plain or screw-threaded flange 7 for attachment to a battery casing, whilst the flange of the disc 8 is adapted to be engaged by a spring-contact arm for switching purposes. Fig. 2 shows a modification wherein the disc 6 is engaged between two insulating washers 4, 5 and is held in position between a shoulder 16 on a sleeve 17 and the outwardly flanged end 18 of the latter. The sleeve 17 may be of circular or polygonal cross-section, preferably octagonal. A screw-threaded bulb socket 19 with a shouldered lower end 21 of the same.shape as the sleeve 17 is urged downwardly by a spring 22, its movement being limited by a flare 20 at the upper end of the socket. A centre contact 23 formed with a collar 24 is held in position by insulating washers 25, 26 clamped on opposite sides of the collar by tags 27 at the bottom edge of the socket. A contact strip 28 on sleeve 17 engages with a switch on the casing.
