Abstract
420,780. Electric battery lamps. BATTERIEN-UND ELEMENTE-FABRIK SYSTEM ZEILER AKT.-GES., 20, Rungestrasse, Berlin. April 3, 1934, Nos. 10133 and 10134. Convention dates, March 31, 1933 and June 30, 1933. [Classes 39 (ii) and 75 (ii)] In an electric torch of the kind wherein two casing members are adjustable relatively to one another by the co-operation of inclined slots with radial pins engaging therein for the purpose of focusing, a bulb carrier 18, Figs. 1 and 4, screwed into the lower member or battery casing 11 is provided with three outwardly movable resilient tongues 220-222 carrying radial pins which engage in the inclined slots 240-242 in the upper casing member 12. In a modification the radial pins are provided on the upper member and engage within inclined slots in resilient tongues on a bulb carrier screwed on to the battery casing. The bulb carrier 18 is made of stamped sheet metal with a rim 21 and screw-threaded collar 19 from which the resilient tongues are pressed. Alternatively loops may be stamped up from the flat portion of the member 18 to receive feet bent at right-angles to the lower portions of separate vertical tongues. A reflector 15 with an end flange 16 bearing on the upper edge of the head 12 of the torch is maintained in position by a cover glass 14 and screw-threaded ring 13. To enable a bulb to be replaced without dismantling the reflector and cover glass, the bulb socket is made in the form of a separate bush inserted, together with the bulb, from the underside of the carrier member 18 when the latter is detached from the battery casing 11 by a rotary movement of the head 12, the hole in the inner portion of the reflector being made large enough for the bulb to pass therethrough. Figs. 9 and 11 show a modification wherein the inclined slots 184-186 are formed in the side of a cylindrical sheet metal pot which is secured to a screw-threaded collar 190 adapted to be mounted on the lower casing member 11. Radial pins 188 fixed in the upper casing member 12 project inwardly into the slots 184-186, the resiliency necessary to allow the engagement of the members being provided by a series of vertical slits in the wall of the metal cylinder to form sections 181 within which the slots are located. Means for ejecting a spent battery may be provided by a push-button 30, Fig. 1, of insulating material formed with a flange which retains it within an aperture in the bottom of the casing member 11. A conical compression spring 33 is provided to maintain the upper pole of the battery in contact with the centre contact of the bulb 26 and also to provide a current path between the bottom pole of the battery and a conductor which extends from a switch 37 down the inside of the casing to make contact with a clip 34 which holds the spring in position.
