Abstract

450,483. Cases. McMILLAN, F. C., 51, Bermondsey Street, London. Jan. 25, 1935, No. 2551. [Class 18] A case which completely encloses a sewing- machine &c. comprises a tray 13 and a removable cover 1, the latter having an inward projection which overlaps the base of the machine to hold it in position. The cover carries a frame 18 which seats against a strengthening frame 15 in the tray, but the end members 10 of the frame 18 are wider than the corresponding members of the frame 15 so that they can engage the top of the baseplate of the machine to prevent it being displaced. The case is made from metal, wood, vulcanized fibre, &c., the top and long sides of the cover being made from a single blank with separate ends riveted on. The corners of the cover are protected by leather caps 5, the lower edges are provided with a metal binding 12, and the top of the cover carrying the handle 8 is reinforced by a wooden batten 7 riveted in position. The frames 15, 18 and the batten 7 are covered with cushioning material, e.g. felt. The case stands on feet 16.
