Abstract

449,893. Batteries. NAAMLOOZE VENNOOTSCHAP PHILIPS' GLOEILAMPENFABRIEKEN, Emmasingel, Eindhoven, Holland. Oct. 2, 1934, No. 28203. Void [Abridged as open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, May 28, 1935]. [Class 53] An accumulator comprises unattackable electrodes upon both of which active substances are deposited from the cations of the electrolyte during the charging process. The electrolyte may consist of a solution of soluble manganese and zinc salts from which manganese dioxide and metallic zinc are deposited on the electrodes during charging. Cadmium may be used instead of zinc. The salts used may comprise sulphates, perchlorates, fluoborates or fluosilicates. Lead salts such as lead fluosilicate may also be used, lead dioxide and metallic lead being deposited on charging The containing vessel may constitute one electrode and may be made of graphite or of a mixture of graphite and a phenol formaldehyde condensation product. The second electrode may consist of a copper helix. A number of cells may be joined in series by pressing the end of the copper helix into the material of the containing vessel of the adjacent cell during the process of manufacture. Instead of a copper helix a rod provided with a hemisphere or a hemispherical shell at its lower end may be used. The flat face of the hemisphere or the inner surface of the shell may be coated or filled with an insulating material.
