Abstract

A catalytic converter of the kind having a plurality of perforated distributing and/or collecting conduits 24, 25 embedded in the contact mass is lined with heat-insulating members 28--30 so disposed as to form a complete covering for all parts of the shell. The members are preferably preformed, e.g. of plastic material filling a shell of sheet metal, and secured in place by bolts 32. The marginal conduits may be unperforated on the side facing the lining members. Conduits with heatradiating fins are described in Specification 430,174 may be employed, and the fins also may be omitted from the outer sides of the marginal conduits. The lining members may also partly enclose these conduits, or conduits may be built within them as shown at 38, Fig. 6. <PICT:0449671/III/1> <PICT:0449671/III/2>
