Abstract
449,204. Conditioning air. ANDREW, T., Rivlyn, Davenport Park, and HOLT, S., The Oaklands, Offerton Lane, both in Stockport, Cheshire. March 8, 1935, No. 7282. Addition to 428,319. [Class 137] In apparatus for controlling the humidity and temperature of air, of the kind described in the parent Specification in which a thermostat controls the water supply to air sprayers in a main air supply and the temperature of such supply and in which a hygrostat in each branch air supply causes the operation of an air heater in cases of high humidity, one of said hygrostats acting as a master hygrostat to control the sprayers, a thermostat and a hygrostat are employed in each branch to control the air heating means, the hygrostat also regulating the flow of air through the branch. The air is circulated through a main trunk (not shown), to four branch ducts (not shown), each having a thermostat a and hygrostat b located in the room concerned. If the temperature falls, the thermostat a admits air to the part d<3> of the compressed air control line d, and if the humidity rises, the hygrostat b admits air to a part d<1> of the control line, the air pressure in either of these opening valve c and admitting steam to heater g. Increase of pressure in line d<1> also operates a motor e to close louvres f, thus reducing the air delivered by the branch and increasing the temperature of the air and reducing the relative humidity in the room. One of the hygrostats b acts as a master hygrostat, and may cause a switch i to start a pump j supplying water to sprays m in the main air trunk, simultaneously a steam valve k may be operated to supply steam to and heat water passing to the sprays m. An additional steam valve l, hydraulically operated by the water pressure from the pump j prevents the admission of steam until the sprays m are in operation. A thermostat q at the entrance to the main trunk actuates a motor r to close one set of louvres p for re-circulated air, and open another set o for fresh air to cause a fall of temperature. A compressed air plant n supplies air under pressure for the various controls. The valve k may be alternatively coupled to a dew-point thermostat s in the main trunk, cocks t and u permitting of the operation of the valve k either by the hygrostat b or by the thermostat s at choice. When the latter is used the thermostat q may be dispensed with.
