Abstract

448,795. Knitting-machines. IMON, S., 76, Kamikakuda, Komeno-cho, Naka-ku, Nagoya, Japan. Dec. 14, 1934, No. 35958. Convention date, Dec. 28, 1933. [Class 74 (ii)] Narrowing in a flat-type knitting-machine is carried out by means which brings the tip of a transfer needle beneath the open latch of a .knitting needle, advances them together, retracts the knitting needle alone, shifts the knitting needles laterally one needle space, and advances the next knitting needle to take the loop from the transfer needle, which is then retracted. Cams A and B respectively advance. and retract the knitting needles, cam C advances and retracts the transfer needles, cam D controls the base 36 carrying the transfer needles, and cam E operates a threaded shaft 58 to shift the knitting needle bed 65 laterally. Cams A and B operate, through rods A<1>,B<1>, concentric shafts 67, 68, and racks 75, 76. Cam C operates, through rod C<1>, a gear 49 fixed to a shaft 50 journalled in the base 36, an intermediate gear 51, and a rack 39<1>. Cam D works a bell-crank lever 31 which moves the base 36, through a link 37. Cam E rotates the shaft 58 through a rod E<1> and pawl-and-ratchet mechanism. As a shaft 3, geared to the main shaft 2, rotates, a rocking lever 10 is actuated through links 9, 8, to reciprocate the usual needle actuating carriage 35. At the same time, an eccentric disc 5 intermittently drives a pattern belt 15. A feeler 14 thereon lifts a lever 18 and so, through associated mechanism, causes the rotation of a shaft 22 carrying the cams, one revolution. As the shaft 22 rotates, the cam D moves the base 36 to decreasing position. Meanwhile cam A has advanced the knitting needle 34 which is to be eliminated. The transfer needle 46 is next advanced by cam C, and its tip comes beneath the opened latch of the knitting needle. Both needles now advance together, the stitch being engaged by the transfer needle. The knitting needle is further advanced to free the stitch entirely from the latch, and then retracted. The needle bed 65 is then moved laterally one needle interval, by cam E, and the next needle is advanced to take the loop from the transfer needle, its latch being opened by a brush 47, and the transfer needle is retracted..
