Abstract

448,301. Endless - belt conveyers. GROVES, W. W., 30, Southampton Buildings, Chancery Lane, London.-(Paetzold, E. E. ; Pomona Nurseries, Ceres, Cape Town, South Africa) June 4, 1935, No. 16176. [Class 78 (i)] An endless-belt conveyer for use in picking fruit comprises a portable frame 1, with a supporting strut or struts 9, adapted to be set up near a tree, the picked fruit being placed in the uppermost of open-mouthed pockets 5 carried by an endless belt 4 passing over rollers 2, 3 at either end of the frame, the fruit being lowered to the ground and discharged into a receptacle 8 by its weight. A brake for stopping or retarding the movement of the conveyer comprises a cord (not shown) secured at one end to the frame, and passing round the upper roller 2 or a pulley secured to the shaft of that roller. When, as shown, a single strut 9 is provided, it terminates in spaced arms 10 pivotally connected to adjustable sleeves 17 on the side frame members 1. Alternatively, the pivotal connection may be between the strut 9 and the arms 10. Slats 12, or a single wide slat, secured to the frame 1 support the front loaded portion of the belt. The Provisional Specification describes also a construction in which a tie-rod or rope at the front of the frame is employed in place of the strut 9.
