Abstract

448,197. Coin-freed article-delivery apparatus. SAPIER, S., 6, Airlie Avenue, Harehills, Leeds. Jan. 28, 1935, Nos. 2772 and 10982. [Class 27] The invention comprises a coinfreed article-delivery apparatus having a combination of specific coin-testing devices for the inserted coins, coin actuated mechanism for freeing a drawer adapted to deliver the lowermost of a pile of articles, and means for supporting the pile during delivery. Testing coins ; clearing-apparatus.-A coin inserted into a slot 11 first engages a pivoted lever 44 which moves a loosely pivoted counterweighted finger 43 to enter and hold an apertured disc preventing its full insertion. The edges of the coin engage spaced fingers 40, 41 of a loosely pivoted counterweighted element 36; smooth coins jamb the element between two stops 39, 42 and cannot be fully inserted, but milled edge coins thrust the finger 40 forwardly, and raise the element to the position shown in Fig. 4, which allows full passage for such coins into an upper shoot 9. Thin coins pass through an aperture 12 in this shoot to a return coin shoot 13 leading to a tray 8. Under-sized coins pass under an abutment 24 also to the return shoot 13. Underweight coins fail to pass through a counterweighted trap 26, and overweight coins pass through a second counterweighted trap 27, both such coins passing to the shoot 13. Coins which have jambed in the several testing devices are released by operation of a pushbutton 19 which is connected, by means of a cam 14 with a pivoted flap 15 covering the side of the aperture 12, and by means of a cam 34 with a vertical sliding rod 28 carrying pins 29 and 30 adapted to deflect the traps 26 and 27. The apparatus shown has several piles of articles with separate coin slots, the testing devices being arranged on the partition walls between the piles and a wall of the outer casing. Coin action, mechanical - connection and multiple-coin ; articles stored in piles.-Coins passed by the testing devices are received into a vertical pocket 49 formed in a rearward extension of the delivery drawer 5. Outward movement of this drawer is normally prevented by engagement of a counterweighted pivoted bar 51, located between vertical guides, with the front of the coin pocket 49. A coin resting in the pocket, however, acts as a cam to raise the bar 51 and allow opening of the drawer. The coin pocket may be constructed to require the insertion of two or more coins to free the drawer, in which case a sloping shelf element at the base of one side wall of the pocket deflects all but the last coin to the opposite side, the last coin being held by the shelf in an elevated position to operate the locking bar 51. A rearwardly projecting shelf 54 on the drawer 5 holds up the next lowermost article, whilst the lowermost is being delivered. Fraud, preventing.-To ensure continued outward movement of the drawer, a spring- actuated pawl 56 engaging a fixed rack 57 is pivoted to its underside. At the completion of the outward movement a pivoted catch 58, also on the underside of the drawer, is moved by a fixed abutment 59 to disengage the pawl 56 from the rack 57 and hold it in disengaged position for the return movement. At the completion of the return movement, the catch 58 releases the pawl 56 again by engagement with a second abutment 60.
