[Class 40 (ii)] The mask or diaphragm having a slit or like recording aperture in optical sound-recording apparatus is provided with outlines, lines, scale graduations, reference marks or other visible markings in order that the dimensions, focusing, position and/or extent of vibration of the recording image can be directly or indirectly observed through a window, optical eyepiece, &c. mounted in or on the casing of the recording apparatus. The observation window may be constructed of non-actinic transparent material and the focusing and dimensioning markings on the mask may be of one colour whilst the amplitude indicating markings may be of another colour. A known form of adjustable volume control device may be associated with the oscillograph or like recording instrument in order to enable an observer to control, adjust or limit the vibration amplitude of the recording light beam.
