Jan. 31, 1936, No. 2943. Convention date, Jan. 31, 1935. [Class 108 (i)] In roof constructions for metal vehicle bodies of the kind having the rear portions of the roof sweeping downwardly and rearwardly in streamline form the upper side quarters are formed as integral portions of the vehicle side panels and a central roof panel extends downwardly and rearwardly to the rear end of the vehicle and is jointed to the side quarters along the whole length of the roof rear portion. The side quarters are curved over as shown and the roof panel 11 extends from the windshield header 11<1> to the rear end of the body and may include the rear window panel 19. Fig. 4 shows one method of joining the margins in which the side quarters 10 are provided with a rabbet 12, 14 in which nests an offset portion 13 of the roof panel 11 so as to present a channel which is filled with sealing solder 17. The rabbet 12, 14 may be extended to form a reinforcement 15, 16 to which also the roof cross braces and head lining may be secured. Fig. 5 shows another method of jointing in which the roof panel 11 comprises two cemented sheets to obviate vibration.
