Abstract

446,973. Latches. PARKES & SONS, Ltd., J., Union Works, Willenhall, and BUTTER, F. J., 17, Balfour Crescent, Wolverhampton, both in Staffordshire.. Nov. 8, 1934, No. 32104. [Class 44] A mortice latch has its case formed of two identical parts A, B, divided about a vertical longitudinal plane and the two parts are bent at their rear ends and formed with projections a<2> and recesses a<3> which interlock when assembled. An end plate C has the metal at one edge of the opening bent to form a flange cl which is riveted to the back plate A of the case. A strip E is riveted to the back plate, and after assembly of the latch parts is riveted to the cap plate B. This strip forms an abutment for a spring I which bears against the back of a latch head G to which is riveted two strips H bent as shown around a follower boss F. The two strips are slotted to receive the horns f of the follower. The latch head G is recessed to receive the ends of the strips and may have projections for riveting to the strips or, as shown, a through rivet g<1> may be used. According to the Provisional Specification a single strip looped around the follower boss F may be used instead of two strips H.
