[Class 122 (i)] [See also Groups XXXVIII and XXXV] A rotary stabilizer for sound-film apparatus comprises a casing containing a rotating element and a viscous fluid which couples the casing to the rotating element, the casing having a cover member fitted into an annular recess in the body member of the casing and held firmly therein by the edges of the one member being spun or otherwise turned over the edges of the other. By this means, the use of fixing screws and heavy packing, which materially increase the mass of the container, is avoided. In the construction shown, the casing 1 which is preferably a magnesium or magnesium alloy casting, is adapted to be fixed to a shaft carrying a drum driven by a sound-film. The cover 7 is secured by turning over the edges 8, 9 of the hub and outer wall of the casing. Within the casing, which contains oil or the like, is provided a mass 4, freely rotatable on ball bearings 3. Specification 415,184 is referred to. The Specification, as open to inspection under Sect. 91, states also that the invention is applicable to practically any apparatus where prevention of irregularities in rotary motion is desirable, such as, for example, synchronous motors. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
