H. ; 3157, North Delaware Street, Indianapolis, Indiana, U.S.A.) Oct. 26, 1934, No. 30687. Convention date, Oct. 28, 1933. [Class 81 (ii)] A scalp-massage device comprises a fixed support having a hub on which a frame rotates, the said frame having a bearing, in which the applicator is journalled, the axis of which is oblique to the axis of rotation of the frame, and a member connecting the hub and the applicator which permits rocking of the applicator while preventing its rotation relative to the support. In the arrangement shown, the moving parts are arranged inside a hollow supporting casing 5. The frame or drum member 36 rotates on a fixed hub 27 supported from the casing, and is rotated by motor 19 through gears coacting with internal gear 37 secured to the upper side of the member 36. The lower part of this member consists of a transverse wall 41 which is disposed in a plane oblique to the axis of rotation of member 36. The applicator 6, preferably of soft rubber, is attached to a hub 46 which is mounted in a suitable ball-bearing in an opening 42 eccentrically disposed in the lower wall 41 of the member 36. Rotation of the applicator is prevented by a link member connecting the hubs 27 and 46. Each of these hubs have axial recesses 60 and 61 which form housings for a pair of gimbal joints 62 and 63 which have studs 70 and 72 of elliptical cross-section projecting outwardly. These studs are connected by a sleeve, thus rendering the studs non-rotatable with respect to each other, and permitting slight variations in the distance between the centres of the gimbal joints as the parts rotate. The drum member has a downward extension 74 terminating in an irregularly shaped flange 75 lying in a plane perpendicular to the axis of rotation of the member 36. A complementary flange 76 in the outer casing shuts off the rotating parts from the outside of the device. Specification 443,711 is referred to.
