[Class 100 (ii)] A platen printing-device for printing dates &c. in connection with a labelling - machine, which may take the form of an attachment to be applied to existing labelling-machines, consists of a typemember 26 mounted in an arm 40 carried by a pivot 25, the type being moved alternately by cam means into contact with the bottom label in a magazine 14 and with an ink pad consisting of the lowest of three vertical rollers 34, 35, 36 mounted in a slotted frame 38. After being printed the label is removed by a gummed picker 10 of ordinary construction. The pivot 25 is carried by a lever 23 on a shaft 24 which is oscillated by a cam 16, lever 18, link 20, lever 21 and link 22, and the pivot moves in the slot 28 of a bracket 27. The pivot 25 is provided with a double cam 31 formed with grooved parts 32, 33 in which engage pins 29, 30 carried by the bracket 27. When the pivot 25 is moved to the upper end of the slot 28, the arm 40 is horizontal and the type member 26 contacts with the ink roller 34. As the pivot descends the guide slot 28, the pin 30 allows the arm 40 to move clockwise through a quadrant and assume the position shown in full lines in Fig. 5. As the pivot continues to descend, the pin 29 reverses the motion of the arm 40 and it moves through the position shown in dotted lines in Fig. 5 and is finally made to contact with the lowermost label as shown in Fig. 1.
