Abstract

445,852. Stuffing - box packing. HALL, F. R., 35, Victoria Road, Falling Park, Wolverhampton, and HOMOGENE PERMANENT PACKING, Ltd., Great West Road, Hounslow West, Middlesex. July 17, 1934, No. 20890. [Class 122 (v)] [See also Group V] Engine &c. packings are manufactured from compounds of materials, e.g. asbestos, flax, cotton, duck, &c. mixed with rubber, whitening barytes, sulphur, zinc, litharge and suitable accelerators, which are comminuted, compressed into billets, passed through an extrusion press and vulcanized. Where endless packings are required the material is vulcanized in moulds. A steam heated chamber h<1> is provided in the press for reception of the compressed billets prior to extrusion through the die f. The latter may be in two parts l, m, Fig. 6, provided with helical passages l<1>, m<1> to form helical packing which is supported after extrusion on a mandrel l<2>.
