Abstract

444,618. Permutation locks. MERKUS, H., and HOOGEVEEN, J., 45, Dampad, Zaandam, Holland. Oct. 17, 1935, No. 28688. [Class 44] A permutation lock comprises a cylindrical casing 1 enclosed at its front end by a cap 5 connected to a locking bolt 6, this bolt having a radial stepped disc 8 cooperating with a slotted sleeve 14, one or more slotted discs 19 and a fixed slotted retaining disc 22 to prevent withdrawal of the pin until all the slots have been aligned by appropriate rotations of the cap in alternate directions. The sleeve 14 has a projection 15 which is engaged by the highest step of the disc 8 when the cap 5 is turned, the slot 17 in the sleeve 14 being aligned with the slot 23 of the disc 22 when an appropriate indication on the cap is brought into register with a pointer. A reverse movement of the cap causes a step 12 on the disc 8 to engage one of two radial projections on the disc 19 to set its slot 21 into alignment with the slot 23. A further rotation of the cap in the original direction brings the stepped disc 8 opposite the three aligned slots and the pin can then be withdrawn from its locking position. The disc 22 has a series of false slots, in addition to the slot 23, which allow partial withdrawal of the stepped disc 8. The disc 8 is secured to the pin 6 by a rivet 9 which projects on each side to prevent complete withdrawal of the pin from the casing by engaging the disc 22.
