Abstract

444,462. Wooden tubes &c. HALILA, Ltd., 330, Bush House, Aldwych, London.- (Treistman, S. ; Halila, Finland) Sept. 4, 1935, No. 24651. [Class 99 (ii)] A wooden tube, barrel, mast, &c. 12, of superimposed laminations which are wrapped around a mandrel 1 and secured together by glue &c., is consolidated by fluid pressure which is preferably exerted uniformly over the whole of its exterior surface by apparatus comprising a casing 5 provided with a rubber &c. lining tube 6. The mandrel carrying the wooden tube is inserted within the casing 5, whereupon pressure fluid from a press 8 and pipe 9 is admitted to the casing to force the lining 6 into close contact with the said tube. The mandrel 1 may be constituted by a split metal tube locating a channel-shaped longitudinal member 2 which carries two strips 3 adapted to space the adjacent edges 4 of the tube ; this construction enables it to be withdrawn easily from the tube 12. A pressure gauge 11 may be associated with the pressure fluid supply pipe 9.
