444,065. Television. TELEFUNKEN GES. FUR DRAHTLOSE TELEGRAPHIE, 12, Hallesches Ufer, Berlin. Sept. 10, 1934, No. 26016. Convention date, Sept. 9, 1933. [Class 40 (iii)] Relates to television systems, as disclosed in Specification 431,561, in which the synchronizing signals consist of reductions of the transmitted carrier to zero, and the picture signals vary upwards from a minimum value A. According to one aspect of the invention, the receiver is unresponsive as regards picture reproduction to received carrier below the minimum value A, so that interference from neighbouring transmissions is reduced. Preferably a valve is biassed to be blocked until signals exceeding the minimum value are received. According to another aspect of the invention, a plurality of transmitters operating on adjacent carrier waves and serving a common area have their carriers reduced to zero at the same times so that the synchronizing signals of one transmission are not subjected to interference from other transmissions. Preferably the transmitters are electrically or mechanically coupled, or derive their synchronizing signals from a modulated carrier wave which may also be used for sound transmission.
