Abstract
443,955. Photographic diazotype processes. HALDEN & CO., Ltd., J., and HOLDEN, J., Rowsley Works, Reddish, near Stockport. Aug. 10, 1934, No. 23100. [Class 98 (ii)] The papers are coated with a light-sensitive layer of a diazo-compound capable of quick coupling, with or without the addition of a coupling agent or azo dye component, and the coated surface, after drying, is dusted with a finely powdered agent which is a metal oxide or salt, insoluble or slightly soluble in water, of a mildly alkaline or neutral nature, and capable of reaction with the acids normally present in the layer for stabilizing purposes or with the acid radicle of the diazo-compound. Suitable agents are magnesium oxide or carbonate, calcium carbonate and zinc carbonate. As coupling components, naphthol sulphonic and disulphonic acids, aminonaphthol sulphonic acids, polyhydroxy compounds, e.g. phloroglucin and arylides of 2.3 oxynaphthoic acid, and pyrazolone derivatives may be used. The support may be treated before sensitizing with a waterproofing agent, e.g. in the manner described in Specifications 418,976 and 425,030. Oil proofing as described in Specification 424,976 may also be used. Insecticides and antiseptics, e.g. chloronaphthalene derivatives, dyes, or dye forming bodies, e.g. leuco indigoid esters, or translucing agents as described in Specification 425,215, [Group VIII], may be included. In examples : (1) paper coated with the diazo chloride of 4-( 1<1>- methyl)-phenoxy acetamino-2: 5 dimethoxy-1-aminobenzene and phosphoric acid is dried and powdered with a mixture of 1 : 5-naphthol sulphonic acid, magnesium oxide, and French chalk. After exposure, the paper is developed by applying a moistened roller or cloth ; (2) paper sensitized as in example 1 is powdered with a mixture of p-phenetedide of 2.3-oxynaphthoic acid, magnesium oxide,. and French chalk; (3) Paper as in example 1 is waterproofed before powdering, with paraffin wax, and powdered with a mixture of magnesium oxide, French chalk, phloroglucinol and sulphated lauryl alcohol ; and (4) paper is coated with a solution of diazo sulphate of p-amino-diphenylamine, tartaric acid, naphthalene-1 : 3 : 6-trisulphonic acid, phloroglucinol, and dextrine. After drying, it is powdered with a mixture of magnesium oxide and French chalk.
