Abstract
443,288. Inertia switches. WISE, C. E., Robin Hood Garage, London Road, Patcham, Brighton. July 25, 1934, Nos. 21765 and 21766. [Class 38 (v)] An inertia switch, operable on collision of a vehicle and also hand-operable and lockable, comprises a coiled spring 16 carrying a weight 19 and fixed at its one end to a plunger 13 which is pressed upwards by a spring 15 and carries a contact block 12. On impact, the weight is displaced sideways causing the spring 16 to collapse and allowing the contact block 12 to move upwards to break or charge the circuit. In the form shown, the spring 16 is fixed at its other end to another spring-biassed plunger 17 and this plunger may be moved upwards by means of a Bowden wire 27 either to reset the device or, if it has not been automatically operated, to allow the contact block 12 to move into its upper position, when it is desired to operate the switch by hand. The Bowden wire may also be moved in the other direction to cause the contact block 12 to move into a third dotted-line position, and the knob 31 of the Bowden wire device may be locked in any of the three positions by a key 32. The central upper and lower positions of the block 12 may represent respectively positions in which (1) the side and tail lamps are switched on and the magneto and dynamo function, (2) the side and tail lamps are switched off and the magnets and dynamo are earthed, and (3) the side and tail lamps are switched on and the magneto and dynamo are earthed. The first Provisional Specification refers to Specification 382,229.
