Abstract
442,590. Tanning. FORESTAL LAND, TIMBER & RAILWAYS CO., Ltd., Regis House, King William Street, London, FONTANA, A., 19, Gran via Layetana, Barcelona, Spain, PHILLIPS, R. O., 82, Chiltern Court, Baker Street, London, and TERRELL, J. T., 4, Crabtree Lane, Harpenden, Hertfordshire. Aug. 1, 1934, No. 22410. [Class 76] In tanning with vegetable extracts of an astringent character, such as quebracho, mimosa, and mangrove, the hides &c. are treated in a series of pits, drums, &c. containing liquors, the pH values of which decrease progressively from between about 6À0 and 8À0 in the first receptacle to less than 4À0 in the last, this successive variation being obtained by allowing the liquor to flow through in succession from the final receptacle to the first at a rate regulated with respect to the munber of receptacles and the quantity of hides being treated. The preferred pH values vary between 6À0-7À5 in the first receptacle and 2À8-3À3 in the last. The pH values are those given by the glass electrode on the actual liquors used which may vary in strength from 10‹ in the first up to 150‹ Barkometer in the last receptacle.
