[Class 16] [See also Group XVII] Apparatus for storing flat articles, such as gramophone records, comprises a framework of spaced supporting members between which the articles are filed edgewise, in combination with a visible index which can be accommodated within the framework or withdrawn to a position to one side such that the index entries are in register with each space between the supporting members. The supporting members 20, Fig. 1, are accommodated in alternate wide and narrow grooves in crosswalls 16, 17 of a case, so that any member 20 can be rocked slightly at one end to facilitate the withdrawal of an article 23. The index-member 19 is housed between walls 17, 18 and is hinged to a sliding end portion 31, Fig. 2, which engages beneath shoulders 34 when the member 19 is withdrawn, and supports it in a horizontal position. The member 19 may be provided with undercut grooves, arranged opposite the spaces between the partitions 20, to receive inscribed indexstrips, or the index matter may be carried on strips with springy ends to clip over the recessed edges of the member 19. The case may be provided with a lid 26 with fastenings 27 and a carrying handle. In a modification the partitions-20 rest on an inclined floor 42, Fig. 10, and the member 19 runs in grooves 44 across the top of the partitions, or may be hinged to one side of the top. The apparatus may be incorporated in drawers in a larger cabinet. The partitions 20 may alternatively be threaded on rods provided with spacing means.
