Abstract

441,140. Ladders. WELLS, E. G., c/o X Chair Patents Co., Ltd., Hayes, Middlesex, and WILSON, E. L., 94, Demesne Road, Wallington, Surrey. July 14, 1934, No. 20676. [Class 20 (ii)] A convertible long and step ladder is provided with a wide platform in the position of the top step but one so that a person standing on this step can rest his legs against the top rung of the ladder portion. The ladder comprises a step portion 11 and a strut portion 12 hinged together on an axis disposed beneath the wide platform step 16 which is recessed at 37, Fig. 5, to receive the sides of the strut portion 12 when used as a long ladder. The ladder portions are locked in extended position by spring locks 29, 32 adapted to enter spaced apertures 33, 35 in the fixed hinge-plates 20 disposed on the side posts of the step-ladder portion 11, the locks being released by rotation of a pivoted lever 24 placed at one side of the ladder portion. The Provisional Specification describes also a notched lever on one ladder portion engaged by pins on the other ladder portion to lock the parts in extended position.
