Abstract
440,700. Table indicators for summoning attendants. GAUNT, C. F., Warstone Parade Works, Birmingham. May 1, 1935, No. 12937. [Class 118 (ii)] [See also Group VI] A shallow ash-tray 5 has secured to its base a pedestal or rod 8 having a knob or enlargement 11 at its upper end, and a cover 12 slides on the rod to cover or expose a no-fume portion of the tray, in which cigarettes to be extinguished can be placed. As shown, the rod 8 is retained by a nut 10 housed in a recess 7, the upper surface of which is engaged by a collar 9 on the rod. The cover 12 is mounted on a boss 13 sliding on the rod, and the tray has an inwardly directed lip or flange 6 recessed at 16 to form cigarette rests. In a modification, the cover 12 normally rests on the rim of an inner receptacle which is clamped between the collar 9 and the upper surface of the recess 7, and the flange 6 is flattened and fitted with sheet-metal cigarette rests. The knob 11, may be replaced by a plate bearing a number, design, advertisement, &c., or a crest, menu-card holder, advertising device or other decoration. The base may be weighted or covered with baize. The Provisional Specification states also that an indicator for attracting the attention of a waiter &c. may be slidable on the pedestal or rod.
