Abstract

439,725. Heating vehicles. SLEE, A. G., Stoneleigh, Brynawelon Road, Llanishen, Cardiff. Dec. 6, 1934, Nos. 35119/34 and 8152/35. [Class 64 (ii)] A heating system for motor vehicles comprises a main heating circuit including the radiator 15 and an auxiliary circuit including a gravity tank 16, the circuits being connected in parallel with a boiler 10 adapted to be strapped to the engine exhaust pipe. The relative flow of the heating medium, e.g. glycerine and water, through the circuits is regulated by a three-way valve 21 operated either by hand or automatically by a thermostat in the space to be heated. The flow may, however, be regulated by the radiator valve 22. In the case of an omnibus, the radiator is disposed on the passenger-side of the partition forming the driver's cabin, while the other parts of the system are placed on the opposite side, the tank being housed in the roof of the vehicle. The partition may be provided with louvres 31, Fig. 5, between which outside air passes into the omnibus and is directed by baffles 30 over the radiator. In the case of a car, the radiator 15, Fig. 7, is in the form of a foot-rest, and the tank 16 is mounted on the front of the dashboard. The boiler may consist of a cylindrical casing on the silencer or, it may be mounted within the silencer.
