[Class 87 (ii)] Apparatus for shaping drum built tyre casings comprises two relatively movable platens between which the tubular casing is placed, fluid pressure being applied to the interior of the casing, and an air bag being automatically inserted therein. The air bag 16 is advanced by means of a hook member 8 from a tubular cavity 5 through an opening 6 in one of the platens situated eccentrically therein so as to be substantially tangential at one point to the edge of the tyre casing, the cavity 5 being of arcuate form and of restricted cross-section so as to collapse the air bag to an elongated form, and the platens 1, 2 have plane surfaces of a diameter substantially greater than that of the opening 6 to accommodate various sized casings. The platens are faced with rubber 17 and the upper platen 1 has a central conical extension 18 to position the air bag 16 and a recess 19 to accommodate the jaw 15 of the hook 8. The lower platen 2 has a sloping margin 21 to its central flat portion 20. In operation the casing 7 is placed in position, the platen 1 is lowered by the piston 4, air is admitted into the casing to inflate it, and the air bag is inserted by the hook 8 and inflated through the tube 19<a>. The descent of platen 1 is limited by stops comprising sleeves 24 in which slide rods 26 having stop collars 25, 33. The rods 26 are connected to the platen 1 and to counterweights 30 which raise the platen. The sleeves 24 are simultaneously adjustable by means of a hand wheel 23 which rotates the sleeves in threaded bearings by worm drives 28.
