Abstract
439,277. Orthodontic appliances. LINDE, J. A., 145, West 41st Street, New York, U.S.A. April 24, 1935, No. 12352. [Class 81 (ii)] Springs and wires to engage the teeth are secured to the arch bow of an orthodontic appliance by means of sliding sleeves ; preferably the springs or wires are tapered so as to be thicker at the part within the sleeve. The arch bow 1, provided with a tensioning sleeve 2, carries springs 3 ... 6 held in place by sleeves 7 ... 10. The tapered ends of the springs are inserted between the arch bow and the sleeves and the springs are then forced into position. The sleeves or the springs may have elevations 11, 12 engaging depressions in the arch bow and the springs may have projections 13 serving as stops. The surfaces of the springs and the bow are plane at the points of contact so as to prevent rotation ; preferably the springs are of semicircular section. Wires to engage small tubes secured to tooth bands are formed with tapered ends to engage sleeves on the arch bow. The anchor band 19, Fig. 9, for securing the end of the arch bow 1 to a molar tooth is adjustably secured to the bow by means of a sleeve 20 provided with projections or teeth 21 engaging a wire 22 fixed to the bow.
