Abstract

In a process for the manufacture of a preliminarily moulded multicoloured patterned article in which the pattern extends completely through the article, layers of differently coloured moulding powders are superimposed in a channel or trough, the surface of each layer being shaped by means of a die, and the layers are then pressed together, if necessary with the application of moderate heat. The binding of the layers may be released, for example by shaking, before the layers are pressed together. The finished articles are produced by applying heat and pressure to the preliminarily moulded articles, or to parts cut therefrom, in the known manner. The moulding-powders may comprise heat-hardenable artificial resins and albuminous substances such as horn powder. When introducing a layer of powder into the channel or trough, powders of various colours may be shaken through one another, whereby the layer may be multicoloured or shaded. The preliminarily moulded article may be employed for decorating an article formed from the same moulding powder by applying it to a layer of unpatterned powder and compressing the whole.
