Abstract
In producing crystallized dextrose from starch converted solutions by adding quantities of solution at intervals to the contents of a crystallizer, the supersaturation of the massecuite is lowered at an intermediate stage of the crystallizing operation by adding solution of a density lower than that of the other filling quantities. The yield of crystals is thereby improved. In an example liquid was added in instalments of 476 pounds, 1823 pounds, 9190 pounds, 1725 pounds, 20,926 pounds and 74758 pounds, to a crystallizer. All of the quantities are approximately of density 40 Baume except the fourth which is of density 30 Baume and serves to lower the supersaturation.
