437,644. Lined barrels &c. PINNEY, H. H., 2396, Noble Road, Cleveland Heights, Ohio, and KLOCKE, W. H., 8906, 97th Street, Woodhaven, Long Island, New York, both in U.S.A. April 4, 1934, No. 10151. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1933. [Class 21] [See also Group XXII] A barrel &c. of the kind comprising an outer wall 1, Figs. and 3, of comparatively inflexible thick staves and a relatively thin inner flexible wall 2, has the inner wall retained in place by stop pieces 8 of the same width as a stave, one of which is secured by screws or spiral nails to each stave. The arrangement permits the removal and replacement of individual staves. The top and bottom consist of plates 3, 4 between which insulating material 5 is positioned. An aperture in the top is closed by a cover member 6. A slight clearance a is arranged between the joint 20 connecting the side and end of the lining and a recess 21 in the outer wall, in order that the inner container can move slightly under severe impact. The lining may be expanded to contact the outer wall by hydraulic pressure. A metal bush 11 for a wooden bung 16 is welded to the lining and a flanged ring 15 is seated in a recess by means of a lock-nut 14, this arrangement permitting the removal of the bung hole stave. A groove 18 is formed in the wall to avoid the surfaces of the end and side meeting at an acute angle.
