[Class 39 (iii)] An electric hot-plate comprises two or more concentric units 1 and 2 separated by an air gap 16 except at one or more points where they are united by bridges 3 integral with the units The surface of the plate is machined after the compound unit is formec Some of the bridges may be subsequently severed by an inclined slot to allow for relative expansion. The resistance wire is embedded in cement in grooves on the bottom of the units and a reflecting plate is provided below. A terminal block 12 is secured under the bridge 3. The hot plate is supported on a surrounding ring and air gaps 17 may be left between this ring and the plate.
