435,218. Games; shuttlecocks. TABLE BADMINTON (PATENT RIGHTS), Ltd., 46, Basinghall Street, London, LASHLEY, C. J. W., 213, Styal Road, Heald Green, Cheshire, NATALI, E. E., 8, Hollywood Way, Woodford Green, Essex, and WOOLF, W. A., 133, Cairnfield Road, Neasden, London. July 25, 1934, No. 21795. [Classes 132 (ii) and 132 (iii)] Means for playing a game of miniature badminton comprises a table provided with a net, miniature rackets and a short flight shuttlecock having a ratio of weight in grains to area of feathers in square inches of 5 : 2 so that in normal play it keeps within the bounds of said table top. The shuttlecock may be constructed as described in Specification 435,021 with a base of moulded plastic material, e.g. plastic wood. In the construction shown in Fig. 9, the base is made of a hollow aluminium cap 17, the feather stems being clamped in the cap 17 by a ring 18 which is forced into the cap or welded or anchored by a stem thereto. In the construction shown in Figs. 10 and 11, the base is formed from an aluminium blank or stamping comprising a disc portion 19 having a series of radially projecting arms 20 provided on each side with staggered lugs 21 which are bent over the stems of the feathers 2, the arms 20 then being bent upwards at the required angle. A band or ring may encircle the arms 20 and be secured thereto to strengthen the base. The miniature racket shown in Fig. 12, has a circular head 22 seven inches in diameter, has an overall length of twentytwo inches and is strung with thin gut or silk. The solid headed racket shown in Figs. 13 and 14 is formed in one piece with strengthening fillets 24 applied to the handle and with or without facings of cork or rubber 25 applied to the head. The table 26, Figs. 15 and 16, is nine feet by five feet marked out as shown and carrying net posts 27 and a net 28, and may comprise a table tennis table marked out by tapes secured by pins, the heads of the pins being enveloped in the tapes to prevent loss.
