Abstract
434,576. Filters. CHORLTON, F. O. L., Riverside Works, Bury. Oct. 27, 1934, No. 30862. [Class 46] A removable filter element of the type formed by winding wire in a discontinuous helical groove cut in longitudinal ribs or bars a<2>, Fig. 1, on a cage or former has end flanges a<4>, Fig. 2, which fit in seatings b<1>, b<2> of a casing B having an inlet b<3> and outlet b<5>. The wire used may have a cross-section of any of the forms shown in Figs. 6 to 13, which is such that the sides of the passageway between adjacent convolutions of the wire flares outwardly in the direction of the filtering flow. The flanges a<4> have apertures a<5> corresponding to the passageways between the ribs a<2> . Liquid from the inlet b<3> filters inwardly to these passageways and reaches the outlet b<5> either direct through the apertures a<5> in one end flange or through the apertures a<5> at the other end, a recess b4 and the interior of the cage or former. The filter element may be rotatably mounted and successive sections of the straining-medium cleansed by a reverse flow caused by a gear pump arranged as described in Specifications 352,553 and 392,548.
